BUTTERFLY METAMORPHOSIS
Stage 1: Butterflies lay their eggs.
Stage 2: The eggs hatch becoming (larvae)caterpillars.
Stage 3:The caterpillar becomes a Chrysalis.
After the caterpillar eats and eats it will shed many layers of skin as it grows into a larger caterpillar. Once the caterpillar has reached full size it will attach itself to a branch, shed its last layer of skin and become a(pupa) chrysalis like the one below.
(Below) A new Chrysalis:
A chrysalis will stay in this stage for approximately 4 weeks, then the chrysalis will open and an adult butterfly will emerge.
Stage 4: A new Adult Monarch Butterfly.
This butterfly's life will last for about 2 weeks. In this 2 week time period it will find a mate, lays it's eggs , and then its life will be over. But, the lifecycle starts over with the eggs that have been layed.
